Ras El Afia lighthouse
A white lighthouse on the rocks west of Jijel town, with clear water and a beach nearby. Best just before sunset.
About 6 km west of central Jijel, Ras El Afia lighthouse stands on a rocky headland above the sea. Built more than a century ago, it still guides ships along this stretch of coast and has become one of Jijel’s best-known sights.
What to do
- Walk the rocks around the lighthouse and enjoy the clear water.
- Swim at the nearby beach, one of the busiest in summer.
- Stay for sunset: golden light on the white tower is a photographer’s favourite.
Tips
- In summer, arrive early: parking fills up fast.
- Wear good shoes for the rocks and bring water.
- The lighthouse is a working maritime site, so respect closed areas.
