Visiting Jijel: your holiday guide between sea and forest
Jijel is a coastal province in eastern Algeria where the Mediterranean meets mountains covered in cork oak. Long sandy beaches, rocky coves with clear water and one of the country’s most scenic coastal roads make it a favourite with Algerian families in summer and with nature lovers the rest of the year.
Why Jijel?
- Beaches for everyone: family-friendly sand near town, quiet coves along the corniche.
- Protected nature: Taza National Park, a UNESCO biosphere reserve.
- Unique sites: the Wonder Caves of Ziama Mansouriah and Ras El Afia lighthouse.
- A historic town: Jijel is ancient Igilgili, founded by the Phoenicians and later Roman.
When to go
July and August are peak season: warm sea and big crowds, so book early. May, June and September bring mild weather and quieter beaches. Spring and autumn are ideal for walks in the forests and hills.
Getting there
The province is served by Jijel Ferhat Abbas Airport. By road, Jijel is about 90 km from Béjaïa, 135 km from Sétif and 150 km from Constantine. A car is the easiest way to explore the corniche and the remoter beaches.
Where to stay
On BNB Jijel every home is visited and checked by our team: sea-view villas, forest chalets and flats near the port and the beaches. You pay only a deposit when you book, the rest to your host on arrival.
